MOHAMMED SAMBO BASHAR
Mohammed Sambo Bashar was born in Sokoto, the seat of Caliphate, on 2nd February, 1956 and is married with children.
At an early age, young Sambo was tutored in Quaranic education and later attended Waziri Ward Primary School, Sokoto and later Nagarta College, Sokoto.
In 1981, he obtained his first degree in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and did his National Youth Service Corps at the Advanced Teachers College, Yola, Adamawa State. He went further to obtain Diploma in Advanced Accountancy in 1989 and M.Sc. Accounting from Sussex College of Technology, Sussex, England.
Malam Bashar being an outstanding and charismatic person rose through the ranks of the Civil Service in Nigeria and was always noted for his tireless commitment at advancing the cause of his profession and to better the lot of the people irrespective of any difference. He was Financial Accountant between 1982-1986 at Sokoto State Ministry of Finance, Accountant/Deputy Financial Controller, Sokoto Agricultural & Rural Development Authority between 1986-1989 and Financial Controller in 1990. He was Chief Finance Officer, National Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission, 1991-1992, between 1993 to 1996. He was Deputy Director Finance, Board for Community Banks, The presidency.
In 1997 he joined the Office of Accountant General of the Federation; he worked as Deputy Director, Treasury and later Deputy Director /Head of Revenue Division in the Revenue and Funds Department and its acting head.
In 2001, he was deployed to the newly created Budget Office of the Federation, as Deputy Director and head of Finance & Accounts Department.
Malam Bashar became Director, Finance and Accounts in 2003 and continued to work at Budget Office of the Federation until 2006 when he went to the prestigious National Institute for Policy & Strategic Studies, Kuru.
From 2007-2008, he was Director, Finance and Accounts Federal Ministry of Information & Communications. In 2009, he was deployed to Federal Ministry of Environment. From the Ministry of Environment, Malam Bashar carved a niche for himself as a distinguished career civil servant when the President and Commander in Chief of the Federation found him worthy in all rankings and appointed him permanent secretary, a confirmation that he is a dedicated civil servant of the Federation.
In pursuit of his career, he attended many workshops, trainings and seminars in Nigeria, United States of America, Ghana, England, South Africa etc.
At the end of 2006, as a participant of course 28, he received the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies membership award of Member National Institute, mni, one of the prestigious, distinguished and honorable awards being bestowed on distinguished alumnus of the National Institute.
A responsible community member, he focused at moving the community forward by aiding the establishment of Gidadawa Community Bank, Sokoto for the disbursement of soft loans to local community members both for commercial and agricultural activities and also helped to establish the Waziri Gidado Foundation a non-Governmental Organization (NGO) where he serves as a member, Board of Trustees. The NGO provides scholarship to students and give support materials to schools in Nigeria.
