The Minister, Federal Ministry of Information and Communications Prof. Dora Akunyili on Monday launched the North-Central Re-branding Nigeria Campaign in Jos the Plateau State capital.

The Plateau State indigenes came out in thousands from all walks of life to welcome the chief image maker of the federation to the tin city.

The Minster in her speech, when she paid a courtesy call on Governor Jonah Jang said that Nigeria is depicted as ruthless crime gang country where all sorts of crimes are being committed just because of the few bad ones out of the 150 million Nigerians.

In view of that, came the need for this gospel of Re-branding Nigeria Campaign to showcase our beautiful stories, good cultural values, intellectuals etc which this great nation Nigeria is being blessed with.

At the town hall meeting in Jos with the people of Plateau State, the Minister called on them and the entire nation to look inward and have an attitudinal change and ethical reorientation that will change our negative stories to positive. She stressed that Nigerians should make concrete efforts to tell our stories by ourselves rather allowing foreigners to define who we are.

Akunyili commended the Governor for starting the re-branding process even before she came with the gospel. She therefore urged him to continue in this spirit of re-branding and bring the state together as he is the leader as well as a father to the entire state.

In his speech the chairman of the occasion Ambassador Bagudu Hirse Minster of State Ministry of External Affairs said that time has come for Nigerians to stand up and denounce all negative perceptions and discriminations labelled against us. Bagudu Hirse stressed the need for Nigerians to embark on this re-branding campaign with all sincerity as he defined rebranding  as an act of reinvention of new ideas, substitution of bad attitudes, reorientation as well as injecting the spirit of selflessness among our leaders and the entire citizenry.

The governor of plateau state Governor Jonah Jang in His remarks commended President Umaru Musa Yar`adua for this initiative and said plateau State is solely behind this re-branding campaign. He said if Nigeria will belief in themselves, they can stand and defend any form of bad image meted on them.

He called on Nigerians to shun religious, tribal and regional differences and to be matured enough to vote in leaders irrespective of their tribe, religion and region; then will change begin.
