The Federal Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development in Nigeria is in the process of engaging State Commissioners responsible for Works, Housing and Urban Development in regular consultation and dialogue with a view to streamlining, aligning and synergizing programmes and
projects to achieve optimal resource utilization and impact.
Minister for Works, Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Hassan Lawal, disclosed the new initiative at a meeting in Abuja last Friday with state Commissioners responsible for Works, Housing and Urban Development in the South-South Geopolitical zone of the country.
He noted that all the three tiers of Government had concurrent responsibilities for the provision of roads and housing infrastructure in all parts of the country, and that the need for regular consultations, complementary and collaborative strategies was obvious to all.
Lawal urged Commissioners from the other geopolitical zones to emulate the Commissioners from the South-South zone.
Also addressing the meeting, the Minister of State for Works, Housing and Urban Development, Mrs. Grace Ekpiwhre, disclosed that the Commissioners were also meeting with officials of the Niger Delta Ministry and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to review and harmonize programmes and projects, with a view to eliminating duplication of projects and wastage of resources.
Commissioners present at the meeting include those of Bayelsa, Edo, Rivers, Cross River and Delta states.
