The Director General of the Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Professor Ahmed Danfulani has stated that the realization of a sustainable Re-branding Nigeria campaign should be anchored on reorientation of the peoples’ psyche through the re-branding of the elites.
Professor Danfulani made the assertion while delivering a paper titled: “Strategies for Sustainable National Re-branding” at the 40th National Council on Information and Communications in Makurdi, Benue State, North central Nigeria.
He assured the Minister of Information and Communications that her initiative was quite laudable and stressed that the elites must of necessity lead by example while recognizing that they are main stakeholders in the Re-branding enterprise of attitudinal change.
The Director General advised the elites to face the reality of striving towards nation – building which he observed had been jettisoned over the years.
The speaker further urged the elites to view themselves in the context of servant-leaders in order to get the citizens to be naturally obliged to the nation.
The 40th National Council of Information and Communication’s meeting featured reports comprised mainly of updates and developments on the positions that were highlighted at the 39th Council meeting in Bayelsa State in 2008.
In all, the meeting of Officials under the Chairmanship of the Permanent Secretary considered the 34 memoranda presented.
Out of the thirty four memoranda, the meeting noted twenty-seven and recommended them to Council. It stepped down four memoranda and advised that three be redirected to the appropriate Federal agencies or Ministries. The memoranda so affected were on global warming, prohibition of smoking in public places and that on the Bororo Fulani Cattle herdsmen in Oyo State versus
the local farmers which were asked to be redirected to the Ministries of Environment, Health and Agriculture respectfully.
