The Hall of Fame Project of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has received the backing of the Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Akunyili who has also vowed to facilitate the regulation of the music industry to ensure transparency.
Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja when the National Executives of PMAN led by the President, ‘Admiral’ Dele Abiodun paid her a courtesy visit, the Minister stressed the need to project excellence and assured Nigerians that despite the challenges the country is facing, the Rebranding Nigeria campaign is still on course.
Akunyili equally solicited the support of the Association on a spirit lifting theme song being worked upon by her Ministry with a view to reassure Nigerians of a better future.
The Minister meanwhile used the occasion to appeal to indigenous Musicians to desist from waxing songs that portray the country negatively, saying “With music, you can sell a country and with music, you can also destroy a country.”
Earlier in his address, the President of PMAN stated that the Hall of Fame project is geared towards the honoring of individuals and achievers in the field of Music in Nigeria and making the music art an income generating venture.
Abiodun stated the preparedness of the Association to partner with the Ministry in the Rebranding Nigeria campaign especially in the area of composing songs in different Nigerian languages as part of ongoing efforts to convey the Rebranding message.
The climax of the visit was the investiture of the Minister as a National Patron of the PMAN HALL OF FAME.
The visit was witnessed by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Henry Angulu, Directors and top officials of the Ministry.
